The Learning Life

Recently, I came across this great graphic showing an inside look at students’ habits.

Kindle, Nook or Book?

A Picture of a eBook

I love the feel of a real book in my hand but in December I opted for a Kindle from Amazon.  Santa was nice enough to leave me one under the tree and I’ve been obsessed ever since.

There are so many free books out there available for download, you can catch up on all the titles you’ve always wanted to read.

I also love the idea of getting a sample of the book before I buy it.  Did I mention that downloading a book takes minutes?  It beats waiting for UPS to deliver that must-read that for some reason has been delayed once again.

With Kindle you can also download games, dictionaries and crossword puzzles, to name a few.  I love EVERY WORD and the NY Times Crosswords (but they’re difficult sometimes).  I’m not such a fan of SHUFFLED ROW – I hate being “timed”.

Here are some great resources for Kindle books:

Although I feel like a book traitor, I think digital e books are the wave of the future.  Why go to the college bookstore and pay over-inflated prices for something you can download in seconds and carry (your entire library – I might add) it in your purse or backpack?

In any case, I  think that they have something with the KINDLE.  I like it.  Do you?

Being a blogger myself, I love reading other people’s blogs and often subscribe to the ones I really like.

Many of these sites are blogs with Twitter accounts.  Some are just good websites worth a gander.  Check them out & let me know if they are a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

Set up your computer for online tutoring

  1. Download & sign up for a free SKYPE account at skype.com.
  2. Click here for a tutorial.
  3. A few tips to live by:
  • Do not put your real name under full name.
  • Never go in “Skype Me” mode!
  • Do not complete your profile.
  • Please don’t use any offensive user names or user names that can be misconstrued.

Every Skype lesson is custom tailored to the student’s needs.

The following is a breakdown of how a Skype lesson with Super Prof 2011 would work:

  • Your certified teacher will let you know about the session’s goals. This may happen via email before your class or at the end of your previous Skype class.
  • At the Skype lesson’s start time, you and your teacher will log on to your Skype accounts and establish a live link.
  • Your teacher will use a combination of oral and written instructions to interact with you during your 60 minute class.
  • At the end of your Skype lesson, your teacher will give you a homework assignment that will help you learn the material covered in the lesson.
